There’s something about a G Flip show that just feels like coming home. Maybe it’s the way their music hits straight to the heart, or maybe it’s how they make every person in the room feel seen the second they step on stage. Whatever it is, their stop at Stage AE on the Dream Ride world tour felt like a celebration of love, identity, and pure joy. Touring in support of their newly released album Dream Ride, G Flip brought a mix of emotional vulnerability and infectious energy that had the entire crowd smiling, crying, and dancing together.
Kicking off the evening was British singer-songwriter Beth McCarthy, whose charm filled Stage AE from the very first note. She carried herself with an effortless confidence, chatting with fans like old friends between songs and laughing with those pressed up against the barricade. Her voice carried warmth and power, moving easily between tender verses and fiery choruses. She was there to set a tone of authenticity and connection, something G Flip would later take to another level.
When G Flip took the stage, the crowd erupted into cheers that seemed to ripple through the entire venue. They opened with “Disco Cowgirl,” confidently pacing the stage, then upped the vibes ten-fold for “Gay 4 Me” by waving a massive Pride flag that had fans screaming even louder. It was an immediate declaration of love and identity, and the energy in the air was electric. Their band helped keep the vibes sky-high as they launched into more songs from Dream Ride, their voice blending soul and power in a way that felt both effortless and deeply personal. “I Don’t Wanna Regret” had the whole room grooving to the funky jazz beats. “Cut His Dick Off” had a sea of voices echoing back from the pit as nearly every single person sang along. The room pulsed with rhythm and colour, a living, breathing extension of G Flip’s musical world.
Throughout the night, G Flip showed that they’re not just a powerhouse vocalist, but a multi-instrumental force of nature. G Flip moved fluidly from mic to saxophone, adding jazzy flourishes that gave each song new texture. Later, in classic G Flip fashion, they hopped behind the drum kit while drummer Benji Ellingworth switched to guitar, trading places like it was second nature. Guitarist Sophie Giuliani and bassist/keytarist Michael Belsar even got in on the fun and switched to percussion for a bit. The crowd went wild at every transition, cheering louder with each new instrument they picked up.
The night carried an undeniable sense of unity. Pride flags waved in every direction, and couples of every kind held each other close as G Flip spoke about love, acceptance, and finding your people. They took time to thank the crowd for showing up as their true selves, and the sincerity in her voice made it clear they meant every word. There was no separation between artist and audience, just one big, beautiful, queer family celebrating life and music together. The inclusiveness was so much more than just a theme; it was the heartbeat of the entire night.
At one point, just after “Be Your Man,” the energy shifted from electric to deeply emotional when G Flip brought up two fans who had gotten engaged during the song. The crowd screamed with joy as the newly engaged couple hugged under the spotlight, and when the music kicked back in, it was like the whole room exploded in happiness. It was the kind of moment that can only happen at a G Flip show.
G Flip’s energy never wavered, and neither did the crowd’s. At one point, they jumped into the middle of the pit, mic in hand, dancing and singing up close and personal with fans.
