When Pittsburgh icon Donnie Iris hits the stage, it’s always a celebration of local pride, but Yinzerween at the Roxian made it something truly special. Known affectionately as the “King Cool,” Iris has been rocking Western PA since the 70s and 80s, carving out a unique place in rock history with his unmistakable voice and anthemic hits. This one-night-only event promised a night of nostalgia, singalongs, and unmistakable Yinzer spirit as fans packed the Roxian, ready for Iris and the Cruisers to bring down the house. The crowd, decked out in Pittsburgh garb and Halloween costumes, was buzzing with excitement – after all, there’s nothing like hearing “Ah! Leah!” in the heart of the Burgh.

Getting the night started was local rock powerhouse Gene the Werewolf, whose wild energy and throwback sound had the crowd pumped from the get-go. With a stage presence as electric as a bolt of lightning and a voice that could wake the dead, frontman Jon Belan led his band through a set that fit the Halloween vibe perfectly, with a blast of classic rock full of big riffs, gruff vocals, and just a touch of glam. The crowd was instantly engaged, headbanging and raising their Inner Groove Brewing x Gene The Werewolf limited release Raised By Wolves beers to songs like the classic “I Only Wanna Rock n Roll” and the group’s latest release, “Raised By Wolves.” By the end of their set, Gene the Werewolf had the crowd howling for more.

When Donnie Iris finally took the stage, the Roxian erupted with the kind of energy you’ll only find in Pittsburgh. Iris, sporting his signature glasses and a grin as wide as the Monongahela, opened with a bang, launching straight into “Agnes.” The crowd, which ranged from die-hard fans who’d been following him for decades to younger faces discovering his music for the first time, was instantly hooked. His voice – still remarkably powerful after all these years – sounded as rich as ever, and his stage presence radiated joy. It was clear from the start that this wasn’t just a concert; it was a celebration of Pittsburgh rock history.

The night’s highlights came as Iris and the Cruisers dove into fan favourites with a mixture of enthusiasm and precision. “Love Is Like a Rock” had the entire Roxian shaking as the crowd sang along with every word, transforming the concert into a massive group karaoke session. His band, the Cruisers, were in top form, laying down driving beats and wailing guitar solos that captured the essence of classic rock at its finest. Every riff, every note felt like a tribute to the city itself, and the crowd responded with cheers, shouts, and unrelenting energy. Each song felt like a love letter to the Steel City, and the audience was right there with him, singing and cheering for every beat.

Iris kept the energy high throughout, delivering both his biggest hits and some deeper cuts for the loyal fans. Songs like “Polka Time” showcased the versatility and Pittsburgh spunk of the band. His banter with the audience was warm and genuine and kept the crowd smiling. By the time he got to “Ah! Leah!” the Roxian was a wall of sound, with the entire audience belting out the iconic chorus. Iris’s passion for his music – and his fans – was evident, making every song feel like a shared memory.

As the show drew to a close, Iris gave one last powerhouse performance with “That’s the Way Love Ought to Be” leaving the crowd shouting for more. The final notes rang out, and the room was electric, filled with the kind of energy that only comes from a night well-spent with a local legend. For those who came to the Roxian that night, it was a reminder of why Donnie Iris remains a beloved fixture of the Pittsburgh music scene.

Walking out of the Roxian, fans were buzzing with the thrill of what they’d just witnessed. Yinzerween with Donnie Iris wasn’t just a Halloween show; it was a celebration of Pittsburgh’s music, pride, and spirit. Gene the Werewolf had set the stage, and Donnie Iris and the Cruisers had delivered a performance that felt like a homecoming. For one night, the Roxian wasn’t just a venue; it was a slice of Pittsburgh’s heart, a place where memories were made, and a night that no Yinzer would soon forget.
