The Roxian was packed tight as music enthusiasts gathered for an incredible show featuring post-hardcore band Movements. Formed in 2015, Movements is one of those bands whose music touches the lives of so many fans, and having the opportunity to see such a band live is a truly priceless experience. The atmosphere was electric with anticipation for what would surely be an unforgettable night.

The evening kicked off with Heart to Gold, an indie-rock trio from Minneapolis. Their electrifying performance set the perfect tone for the night, as they delivered melodic tunes with an explosive energy that got the crowd jumping.

Next up was Softcult, with their unique blend of dreamy indie rock and grunge. Their hauntingly beautiful vocals and intricate guitar work captivated the audience. Between songs, frontwoman Mercedes Arn-Horn brought attention to various social issues, and made a point to call out mysoginists and incels in particular. The duo of Mercedes and her sibling Phoenix (drums) also put out a monthly zine called SCripture discussing social, political, and environmental issues. These themes can be seen throughout the band’s music, providing an added emotional punch. Softcult’s performance was a mesmerizing journey through their incredibly crafted soundscape, leaving the crowd yearning for more.

Mannequin Pussy took the stage with a burst of raw energy that had the venue pulsating with excitement. Their high-energy punk rock set was a whirlwind of frenetic guitar riffs and powerful vocals. The mosh pit erupted, and the crowd surfers started to come out as the band delivered an electrifying performance.

Finally, the moment everyone had been waiting for arrived as Movements stepped into the spotlight. The atmosphere in the venue was thick with anticipation, and the band did not disappoint. Their emotionally charged lyrics and intense instrumentals filled the room, creating an intimate connection between the band and the audience.

Frontman Patrick Miranda’s passionate delivery and vulnerability on stage added a layer of authenticity to their performance that left a lasting impact. The band’s ability to convey complex emotions through their music was truly remarkable, and it was evident that their songs had a profound effect on the audience.

With a setlist spanning Movements’ entire discography, there was something for everyone. Fan-favourites “Daylily” and “Kept” were played alongside tracks from the newest album, including “I Hope You Choke!”. As a special addition, “Fever Dream” was performed accoustically, met with an insane roar of cheers from the crowd. This diverse set got everyone dancing and moshing and singing along the entire night.

The night was filled with emotion, energy, and incredible music, with all of the bands bringing their own unique style and passion to the stage. It was a reminder of the power of live music to connect people through shared experiences and emotions, and it left everyone eagerly awaiting the next opportunity to relive this exceptional night.
