The air was heavy with anticipation at the Roxian as Lacuna Coil brought their Sleepless Empire tour to a powerful conclusion. With three decades of gothic metal under their belts, the Milan-based band remains a force of sonic darkness and melodic fire. Their newest album, Sleepless Empire, blends the haunting atmosphere they are known for with fierce heaviness, and fans arrived ready to witness that energy in full form. As the final night of the tour, the Pittsburgh crowd was eager to go out with a bang, and Lacuna Coil showed no signs of slowing down.

Kicking off the show was Versus Me, a Wisconsin metalcore band that brought massive energy right out of the gate. Their sound blended catchy, melodic hooks with heavy-hitting riffs, offering a perfect warm-up for the night. With clean vocals that soared and breakdowns that hit like a punch to the chest, they commanded the stage with confidence. The crowd responded quickly, forming early mosh pits and raising fists to the sky. It’s not often that an opening band can request the crowd sing for them and get a sea of voices echoing back, but that’s the power and control Versus Me had. Versus Me left the stage having made a strong impression, and the mood inside the Roxian had shifted into high gear.

Next came Unearth, veterans of the metalcore scene, and their performance was nothing short of ferocious. From the moment they stepped on stage, the band delivered a relentless assault of blistering guitar work and guttural vocals with hair flying everywhere. Songs “This Lying World” and “The Wretched; The Ruinous” landed with brutal precision, and the pit responded with nonstop movement. Vocalist Trevor Phipps stalked the stage with intensity, feeding off the crowd’s energy and pushing it further. Unearth reminded everyone exactly why they’ve been a staple in heavy music for over two decades.

When Lacuna Coil finally appeared under a haze of light in sync with thunderous beats, the room erupted. They opened with “Layers of Time,” and immediately the atmosphere shifted to something that felt almost ceremonial. Cristina Scabbia’s voice was as powerful as ever, moving effortlessly between ethereal melodies and searing aggression, while Andrea Ferro added a visceral edge with his guttural growls. The band was locked in, feeding off the crowd and delivering a set that felt sharp and emotionally charged, determined to send the tour off bigger and better than ever.

The set featured a perfect balance of fan favourites and new material. Sleepless Empire sees a return to Lacuna Coil’s heavier, more experimental sound, and the power behind the music when played live was ungodly. “Gravity” sent chills down spines with its hauntingly beautiful melody. The drop at the start of “Never Dawn” is without a doubt one of the best, and must be experienced live to truly appreciate the power. “Oxygen” carried a crushing intensity, its sheer weight pressing down like a vice, almost suffocating but in the most exhilarating way. Iconic staples “Heaven’s a Lie” and “Enjoy The Silence” had everyone going wild and, when paired with the new album, really showcased the band’s ability to evolve and grow without losing their core identity. The crowd responded throughout the entire set with loud chants and raised horns, celebrating a band that has always walked the line between darkness and empowerment. The connection between artist and audience was unmistakable, especially so for the many young girls in attendance, and it made the night feel even more special.

Closing out the show with “Nothing Stands In Our Way,” a very fitting track to end an unbelievably successful tour, Lacuna Coil delivered a finale that shook the walls. Fans roared with every word, holding nothing back as the final notes rang out. The Sleepless Empire tour ended not with exhaustion, but with triumph. Lacuna Coil left everything on that stage, and the Roxian will echo with their sound for a long, long time to come.
