Strung Out, the legendary punk rock band hailing from Simi Valley, California, brought their high-octane energy to Crafthouse Stage & Grill on their latest tour in support of their new album, “Dead Rebellion.” With a career spanning over three decades, Strung Out has consistently delivered a blend of melodic punk and technical prowess, captivating fans worldwide. Known for their fast-paced rhythms, intricate guitar work, and thought-provoking lyrics, the band has built a dedicated following that eagerly anticipated their return to the Steel City.

Kicking off the night was Ripley, a local Pittsburgh punk rock band that set the stage on fire with their dynamic performance. From the moment they hit the stage, the energy was palpable, with band members constantly jumping and engaging with the crowd. Their songs, some of which addressed themes of mental health, resonated deeply with the audience. The raw and passionate delivery was highlighted when the vocalist got right up on the barricade, singing directly into fans’ faces, creating an intimate and intense connection, and an amazing start to the night.

Next up was Mercy Music, the three-piece rock band ftom Las Vegas, who delivered an incredible set that kicked the night into overdrive. With most of their setlist comprised of tracks from their 2023 album “What You Stand To Lose” with a few older songs sprinkled in, Mercy Music has a refreshing take on punk rock perfectly fit for the modern era while maintaining the iconic retro vibes that built the scene. Vocalist Brendan Scholz’s humorous yet sincere engagement with the crowd was a delight, especially when he encouraged fans to visit the merch table with the line, “I promise I’m not a weirdo, I just look like one. … I’m kind of a weirdo.” This self-deprecating charm immediately won over the audience. But all eyes were drawn to bassist Jarred Cooper as he made the stage his own, kicking and jumping off amps and just bringing the punk rock party.

Mercy Music continued to impress with their high-energy antics, featuring insane jumps and tight musicianship that kept the crowd engaged from start to finish. Each song was delivered with precision and enthusiasm, showcasing the band’s ability to blend melodic elements with pure punk intensity. The catchy hooks and intense energy were completely infectious and had everyone jumping and moshing to the upbeat rhythms.

Ignite took the stage next, bringing their hardcore punk sound to the eager crowd. Vocalist Eli Santana wasted no time in connecting with the fans, frequently going to the barricade to sing alongside them. Connecting even further, Santana regailed fans with the story of how his very first hardcore band was Ignite, and now he gets to share a stage with them. This level of interaction created a completely electric atmosphere, with fans feeling truly a part of the performance. Ignite’s set was a powerful blend of aggressive riffs and anthemic choruses, showcasing their ability to blend intensity with melody, and was a testament to their enduring appeal and commitment to delivering a high-energy live show.

When Strung Out finally took the stage, the anticipation in the air was tangible. The band’s infectious energy and tight performance had fans singing along to every word from the opening note. With a setlist that included both new tracks from “Dead Rebellion” and classic favorites like “Analog” and “Matchbook,” Strung Out delivered a show that satisfied longtime fans and new listeners alike, including the youngest fans eagerly pressed up against the barricade. The band’s fantastic hooks and super catchy choruses had the entire venue echoing with their sound.

The members of Strung Out were clearly having an absolute blast on stage, feeding off the crowd’s energy and delivering a performance full of vigor and excitement. Their technical prowess was on full display, with intricate guitar solos and tight rhythms that showcased their musicianship. Each song was met with enthusiastic cheers, and the band’s interaction with the audience made the night feel like a communal celebration of punk rock.

Strung Out’s show in Pittsburgh was a triumphant display of punk rock mastery. From the opening acts to the final encore, the night was filled with high-energy performances, heartfelt interactions, and unforgettable music. Ripley’s local flavor, Mercy Music’s catchy hooks and engaging stage presence, Ignite’s intense fan interactions, and Strung Out’s unparalleled energy combined to create a concert experience that left fans buzzing with excitement. This show not only highlighted the enduring appeal of punk rock but also reinforced the strong sense of community and passion that defines the genre.
