It was a throwback to 2000’s punk rock as The Menzingers took center stage at the Roxian for an electrifying night of music. Originating from Scranton, Pennsylvania, The Menzingers have carved a niche for themselves with their anthemic punk rock sound. Known for heartfelt lyrics and powerful performances, the band has steadily gained a dedicated fanbase over the years.

The night kicked off with the Rodeo Boys, a queer rock & roll band from Michigan.  The group’s blend of indie rock with punk influences had an intensity and sincerity that got everyone hyped. Their incredible energy and tight chemistry was positively infectious. Playing tracks from their newest album, “Home Movies,” Rodeo Boys had a charm about them that made you love them the second they started playing.

Following Rodeo Boys, Cloud Nothings took the stage, delivering a raw and dynamic performance. An indie rock band from Cleveland, the trio amplified the energy. The intricate guitar work and the frontman Dylan Baldi’s passionate vocals created a captivating atmosphere, leaving the audience eager for more.

Microwave followed with a performance that added a different flavor to the lineup. Their post-hardcore sound mixed with elements of alternative rock created a sonic landscape that resonated with the crowd. The band’s ability to seamlessly shift between intense and melodic moments showcased their musical versatility, making them a noteworthy addition to the night.

As anticipation reached its peak, The Menzingers burst onto the stage, greeted by thunderous applause. The band kicked off their set with a relentless energy that reverberated through the venue, instantly captivating the audience. Guitar riffs and thunderous drum beats provided the backdrop to the heartfelt lyrics that have become a trademark of the Menzingers’ style. The chemistry between vocalists Greg Barnett and Tom May was palpable, enhancing the emotional depth of their lyrics. The crowd sang along passionately, creating a sense of camaraderie that reverberated throughout the venue.

The Menzingers’ performance was a testament to their seasoned stage presence, as they navigated seamlessly through fan favorites and deep cuts. The band’s connection with the audience was undeniable, fostering an intimate yet exhilarating atmosphere. Whether playing anthems like “I Don’t Wanna Be An Asshole Anymore” or the poignant “After the Party,” The Menzingers delivered a set that left a lasting impression. Featured throughout the night were tracks from their newest album, “Some Of It Was True,” which fit seamlessly with all of the beloved tracks.

Throughout their performance, the Menzingers showcased their versatility, seamlessly transitioning between punk rock anthems and more introspective ballads. The vocals, delivered with a raw and passionate intensity, resonated with the crowd, creating an intimate connection between the band and their fans. The atmosphere was electric as fans passionately echoed the lyrics if their favourite songs, creating a shared experience that transcended the typical concert dynamic. The Menzingers’ ability to connect with their audience on such a personal level was a testament to the authenticity of their performance.

The entire show was a thrilling display of diverse musical talents. Each opener brought a unique flavor to the evening, contributing to the overall dynamism of the event. The Menzingers, however, stole the show with their emotive performance, solidifying their reputation as a band that not only produces exceptional studio recordings but also delivers an unforgettable live experience. As the echoes of the final chords lingered, it was evident that the night had been a celebration of music, community, and the enduring power of live performances.
