The anticipation in the air was palpable at the Roxian as fans gathered for the 40th anniversary and final tour of industrial pioneers, Skinny Puppy. With a legacy spanning decades, the Canadian electronic band has consistently pushed the boundaries of music and performance art. Originally scheduled for April but cancelled after the opener due to illness, expectations were extremely high for a memorable and impactful farewell.

Kicking off the night once again was Lead into Gold, setting the stage with their industrial soundscapes and hypnotic beats. The audience was immediately transported to another dimension, feeling the pulsating energy that Paul Barker delivered. With pulsating colours and lights synchronized to the sounds, Lead into Gold kicked off a musical journey that would continue throughout the night.

Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for – Skinny Puppy took the stage. The atmosphere shifted as the iconic visuals and avant-garde stage setup immersed the audience in a surreal experience. Frontman Ogre entranced the crowd with his iconic, theatrical presence, embodying the essence of Skinny Puppy’s dark and experimental aesthetic.

The sonic assault of Skinny Puppy’s performance was both intense and immersive. The intricate blend of electronic beats, distorted vocals, and industrial noise created a sonic landscape that resonated through the venue. The stage production, complete with striking visuals and lighting effects, complemented the music, amplifying the overall sensory experience.

Throughout the set, Skinny Puppy showcased their versatility, seamlessly weaving through their extensive discography. Fans were treated to a retrospective journey, reliving the evolution of the band’s sound. The emotional weight of this being their final tour added an extra layer of intensity, making each song feel like a poignant moment in the band’s storied history. And as a very special surprise during the encore, Skinny Puppy performed “Film” for the first time live since 1986!

As the last echoes of Skinny Puppy’s sonic assault lingered in the air, the crowd erupted in applause and cheers. The band bid farewell, leaving the audience with a overwhelming sense of having witnessed a monumental chapter in music history. The concert was not just a farewell but a testament to the enduring influence of Skinny Puppy, marking the end of an era in the most unforgettable way.
