Fifth up on the Chaos & Carnage lineup was Sanguisugabogg. Taking their name from the Latin word for “bloodsucker” or “leech” (“sanguisuga”) and the British slang term for “toilet” (“bog”), Sanguisugabogg has been making waves in the death metal world since their formation in 2019. With incredibly gory songs that take an old-school death metal sound and mix it with modern techniques, they’re a prime example of what modern death metal should be.
The incredibly loud and heavy show took a turn in the middle, when vocalist Devin Swank told the crowd to make a circle pit. He then proceeded to pull out a football and issued the following statement:
Whoever gets [the football], that’s great. But whoever gives it to me at the end of the set gets free merch
Nothing gets fans more riled up than free stuff. Devin tossed the football into the circle, counted to three, then all hell broke loose. It looked more like a rugby match than a metal show, with people just piled on top of each other, fighting for their chance to get the football. At the end of the set, a young fan rose victorious and crowd surfed his way to the front, football held high!
