Claiming the sixth spot on the Chaos & Carnage lineup was Aborted. Aborted is the first of the long-standing bands on the tour, having formed in 1995, originally from Belgium but now with band members from all over the world. With absolutely gruesome vocals and heavy riffs, they have remained a strong force in the death metal world.
Let me just say this: Aborted singlehandedly brought the chaos to the Chaos & Carnage tour. Vocalist, and founder, Sven de Caluwé, is quite literally chaos incarnate while on stage. From getting in the faces of fans and headbanding right alongside them to jumping around and hitting himself, there was never a still moment with Sven. Throughout the set, he would pick someone in the crowd and stare them down with the most intense eye contact and then in the next moment start making crazy faces at everyone. It was an absolute roller coaster. And all this while maintaining the gutteral growls expected of a powerhouse death metal band. And the rest of the band got in on the fun too, making faces at each other and jumping around on stage. It was wild.
The energy of Aborted was absolutely contagious. The crowd had already been pretty geared up with the first five bands, but this was the turning point of the night. This was when all of the crowd surfers started coming out to play. Nobody could remain still while Aborted commanded the stage. This is the true power of metal.
