A throwback to the final show of 2022 and the first show of 2023. Tenacious D lit up Las Vegas for an explosive New Year’s celebration. With shows both December 30th and December 31st, there was no better way to close out one year and start the next.

The first show was already absolutely wild, with a mix of hits and deep cuts. In order to change up the setlist a bit between shows, the Wheel of Destiny was brought out both nights and a lucky lady was brought on stage from the crowd to spin. The wheel contained many of Tenacious D’s lesser played songs. On night one, the wheel very fortunately landed on both Warning and Jesus Farm, so obviously the band played both. And as is tradition, Jack also brought out his Sax-a-boom for a dance break, only to be one-upped by Kyle’s Max-a-boom.

The second show started an hour later then the previous day’s so that everyone could ring in the New Year with the D. Right off the bat, this show set a different tone, with Jack and Klye coming out on stage in tuxedos. The tuxes were very quickly ripped off to reveal classic tux t-shirts, a much more fitting attire. From there, the setlist was essentially the same as the previous show, up until a few minutes before midnight. At that point, the Wheel of Destiny was brought out and spun by a new lucky lady. The first song, Malibu Nights, wasn’t quite long enough to get to midnight, so the wheel was spun again, this time landing on It’s Not Unusual. After a shortened version of this, it still wasn’t time to begin the countdown so once more to the Wheel of Destiny for a final random song of 39, which Jack decided to change to 49. Suddenly the music stopped and the countdown began

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Balloons dropped from the ceiling, everyone fired off their cumfetti (very tasteful confetti merch that was being sold before the show), the band started singing Auld Lang Syne. A perfect ending to 2022 and a wonderful start to 2023.
