This past weekend, I had the pleasure of photographing Emma Weidenhamer and J. Demetrius “Jay” Belvin, co-owners of Obsidian Giant, a publishing company based out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They were promoting their published works, which include two haiku anthologies and three series that Jay himself wrote. They had signs at their booth promoting Jay’s three series as:
“A post apocalyptic battle against racist vampires” (the Darkehand series)
“A battle for dominance on a dystopian planet” (the Brim series)
“A coven of witches fighting evil in the antebellum south” (the Bloodsisters series)

Jay was cosplaying a character from his series Brim. Wielding a giant ax and warrior’s outfit, Jay stood tall above Obsidian Giant’s booth at the convention. It was impossible to walk by without admiring, and it was a brilliant way to attract new fans to their work.
These series are a diverse array of stories that perfectly represent Obsidian Giant. The publishing company focuses on promoting individuality in the industry through imaginative works of literature, art, and original designs. And this is only the beginning for Obsidian Giant. As a small business, they are always looking to expand and grow. I highly recommend their novels and can’t wait to see what they have in store next!
