A throwback to one of the best shows of last year. The day may have started out like any normal Monday, but Swedish heavy metal band Sabaton closed it out with a bang! You could feel the energy of the crowd as everyone was singing along. After nearly every song, the venue was filled with everyone chanting ‘Sa-ba-ton’, and it was clear that the band were loving every second of it. Sabaton played all of their classic that are more or less expected at their shows: Ghost Division, Prime Victoria, Attack of the Dead Men, and yes, even Swedish Pagans, despite protests from singer Joakim. They also included songs from their newest album, The War to End All Wars: Stormtroopers, Soldier of Heaven, and Christmas Truce, complete with Joakim on piano. Unexpectedly, one of their Swedish songs was included in the setlist, Gott Mit Uns from the Swedish version of the album Carolus Rex. Carolus Rex is considered by many as Sabaton’s best album, especially the Swedish version, so it’s always exciting when it gets added to the setlist. Even though not as many fans were singing along to this one, though the energy of the crowd only continued to grow.
For a very fun surprise, Joakim stepped aside towards the end of the setlist and gave guitarist Chris the opportunity to select the a song, though Chris proceeded to let drummer Hannes have the spotlight for a moment. Hannes selected Iron Maiden’s classic Run to the Hills, and guitarist Tommy had the chance to take over the mic. Tommy is an accomplished vocalist with his own band, Majestica, so having him on vocals even just for a short moment was an incredible treat. And it was the cherry on top of a perfect concert.
